Marketing Engineer

The Marketing Engineer is a position that straddles two fields - engineering and marketing.  It is the job of the marketing engineer to work with customers to help define design requirements, technical specifications, turn-times, power-requirements, what process library to use, and choose package types.  In many ways, a marketing engineer can be thought of similarly to a general contractor at a construction site.  They act as an intermediary between the person buying the house and the workers actually building the house.  The marketing engineer helps keep the customer's expectations and demands realistic and ensures that the design engineers have the information they need to complete the design.

Usually, by the time a marketing engineer is involved with a customer, the sales division has already gotten the committment from the customer, so the marketing engineer is usually not paid commissions.  Pay rates for this role will generally be similar to other engineers within the company, and usually fall within $50,000 to $120,000 per year depending on location.

The marketing engineer must possess good customer service and communication skills since they are dealing with the customer directly.  Occasionally, the ME will be required to travel to the customer's site for face-to-face communications.  Overall, this is a good position for technically-minded individuals who enjoy dealing with people and know how to keep customers happy while keeping design goals realistic.
