Cubical life
One fact of the modern business is that the days of private offices are mostly gone. Replacing doored offices are row after row of 8x10 or 10x10 cubicals. As an employee in the semiconductor design field, you are very likely to find yourself sitting in a "cube" when at work.
Many a joke has been made about cubical life but overall, it's generally not that bad. Of course, you can sit by a squeaky-voiced person who talks on the phone all day (a la Office Space the movie) but usually, you'll be surrounded by people with similar interests as yourself and it's not a big deal. Actually, cubes can make for easy communication with people who sit around you since you can ask them a question without even leaving your chair.
Private offices are usually reserved for higher-up people or managers who have a requirement for privacy while they discuss employee performance or company-critical projects. However, it's becoming more and more common for managers to sit in the "cubical farm" with everyone else and go to conference rooms when they require privacy.
